About Kara Matheson
Kara has been teaching adults and children for over 20 years and has rich experience working with various needs and learning styles. As a teacher of Mindfulness and Mindful Communication, Kara aims to keep it simple, and to create a space where people feel supported in discovering their present-moment experience, whatever it is, and being able to work with that – that moment, that feeling, that thought, that body sensation.
Kara combines her training Education (BA Grad. Dip. Ed.), and Mindfulness (including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for adults and children, and training with Mindful Schools, and the Mindfulness in Schools Project) with her training in Nonviolent Communication (NVC).
In 2013, after many years of training, practice, and teaching in NVC, Kara was accepted by the Centre for Nonviolent Communication as a candidate for International Certification.
In 2015, Kara is teaching at Sydney TAFE; offering courses in mindfulness to children at Teens at her farm; and training teachers and students in local schools.
Kara has a unique combination of experience and training: a long career in educating both adults and children, a long-term, treasured personal yoga and meditation practice, extensive training in Mindfulness teaching for adults, children and teens, and training and experience in teaching Nonviolent Communication.
Please note that the mindfulness training Kara offers is educational rather than therapeutic. It does not constitute clinical treatment but is a sharing of mindfulness techniques to support people in developing their own practice in daily life.
